Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) are the unsung heroes of the skies, ensuring every aircraft is safe and airworthy before take-off. No aircraft can legally fly without certification from a licensed AME—your work ensures the safety of millions of passengers worldwide.

India's aviation industry is witnessing sustained growth, driven by rising domestic passenger traffic and large aircraft orders by Indian carriers. Airlines such as IndiGo and Air India Group have placed significant fleet expansion orders, reflecting long- term confidence in the market. In parallel, the Government of India has projected the aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) market to reach around USD 4 billion by 2031, supported by policy reforms aimed at strengthening domestic aviation infrastructure and capabilities.
This steady expansion is intensifying the demand for skilled aviation professionals, particularly Pilots to operate the growing fleet and Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) to ensure safety, airworthiness and regulatory compliance. Together, these developments highlight the critical role of trained manpower while creating substantial career opportunities across India's aviation ecosystem.
Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) and Commercial
Pilot License holders are not just skilled professionals; they are
legally mandated authorities whose approvals are essential for
every flight. As per ICAO standards (Annex 1 and Annex 8), followed
by all 193 UN member countries, and under India's Aircraft Act, 1934,
Aircraft Rules, 1937, and CAR-66, no aircraft can be released for
flight without a licensed AME signing the Certificate of Release to
Service (CRS). An AME's signature legally certifies that the aircraft
is airworthy and safe to operate.
Similarly, Pilots hold legal responsibility for the operation of the
aircraft, with their licences and clearances validating that the flight
can be safely conducted in compliance with aviation regulations.
No commercial flight can take off without a licensed pilot in
command, just as it cannot depart without an AME's certification.
Every passenger, every aircraft, and every flight depends on this
dual layer of legal accountability-maintenance certification by
AMEs and operational authority by Pilots.
Together, licensed AMEs and Pilots form the backbone of aviation
safety and compliance. As the aviation industry continues to
expand, the demand for these legally indispensable professionals
keeps rising-making aviation a future-ready career where
expertise, responsibility, and authority directly keep the skies safe.
Important Note: Even if you hold an M.Tech or Ph.D. in Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering, you cannot certify an aircraft unless you complete the AME curriculum prescribed under CAR 66 and obtain an official AME license. This makes AMЕ a highly specialized, legally recognized, and globally respected profession - where your skills directly impact aviation safety.
Backed by the Sha-Shib Group, South Asia's largest aviation training group, offering DGCA-approved AME (CAR-147) and Pilot Training (DGCA-approved FTO).
The global aviation industry is soaring with robust growth, offering promising opportunities for Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs). According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), air passenger numbers are expected to reach 4.7 billion in 2025, surpassing pre-COVID levels of 4.5 billion in 2019. This resurgence fuels the demand for newer aircraft and efficient maintenance systems.
In India, the aviation market is the third-largest globally and is projected to become the third-largest aviation market by passengers by 2030 (Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt. of India). With over 1,200 aircraft on order by Indian carriers and the expansion of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hubs, the country is poised for a boom in aviation services.
Boeing's 2023 Pilot & Technician Outlook forecasts a need for 690,000 new maintenance technicians globally by 2042.
India's MRO industry is expected to grow from USD 1.7 billion in 2021 to USD 4.0 billion by 2031 (Invest India), creating thousands of job openings for licensed AMEs.
Policies like 100% FDI in MRO and the UDAN scheme are boosting regional connectivity and job creation.
